Russia Unveiled: Top Destinations for the Modern Traveler

  1. What are some of the most notable or popular locations that anyone can visit?

Russia offers a wealth of iconic destinations from Kaliningrad in the very west of Russia to Vladivostok in the very east.

Moscow and St. Petersburg are must-visits for their historical landmarks and cultural treasures. For nature enthusiasts, I would recommend Siberia and Lake Baikal, the deepest freshwater lake in the world, with its stunning landscapes and breathtaking views.

  1. How do you see the growth of tourism in Russia?

We continue to implement the national project “Tourism and Hospitality”. Our goal is to increase the contribution of tourism to the country’s GDP to 5% by 2030 and to ensure the growth of both internation and domestic travel.

Attracting tourists from India remains one of our key priorities. We warmly welcome Indian friends to explore the beauty and diversity of our state.

  1. How do you envision the future development of tourism between the two countries?
It is very promising. Both governments are working on strengthening travel agreements, improving air connectivity, and promoting cultural exchanges. With simplified visa processes which includes the introduction of e-visa, we expect
a steady rise in tourist flow.
  2. What is the best time of year to visit Russia for tourism?

Russia offers unique experiences in every season. Summer is ideal for exploring cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg, with long daylight hours and pleasant weather. Winter is perfect for experiencing Russia’s famous snow-covered landscapes, winter sports, and festive celebrations—though Indian visitors should be prepared for a bit of cold! Spring and autumn is a mix of cultural events and stunning natural scenery.

  1. How much time is ideal for a tourist to explore Russia?

The ideal duration of a trip depends on the traveler’s interests. A short visit of
3-6 days allows tourists to explore major attractions such as Moscow and
Saint Petersburg.

A two-week itinerary could include Kazan, historical cities near Moscow like Vladimir, Suldal and Yaroslavl or the scenic Lake Baikal.

For such journeys you could apply for e-visa which is easy to get for Indian friends. An e-visa is issued within 4 calendar days, including week-ends and bank holidays and there is no need for any invitations or confirmations. Just fill in the application form on the website

  1. Which initiatives would you wish to promote in your capacity as Consulate General?

I would like to promote closer tourism cooperation, increase awareness of Russian travel destinations, and facilitate business partnerships. Strengthening cultural exchange programs, student travel initiatives, and tourism infrastructure will further enhance bilateral travel.

At the same time, we are actively developing personal ties between key players
in the tourism sector. This year, the Moscow Tourism Development Committee held a stunning presentation in Mumbai. A delegation from St. Petersburg participated in the OTM, which was also held in the capital of Maharashtra. Representatives from Goa, Kerala, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh recently showcased the beauty of their states at MITT 2025 in Moscow.

The country’s tourism infrastructure has fully recovered, with hotels, restaurants, and attractions operating as usual.

At the same time, Russia has strengthened health and safety measures across major tourist sites, ensuring high standards of healthcare and well-being for visitors. Additionally, medical facilities are widely available, and travel insurance remains a recommended precaution for any international trip.
